Photoshop’s Biggest Problem

Coming home from your latest photo outing is a bit like Christmas Eve. Your camera is chock-full of visual gifts for you to open. Some of the gifts you'll love, some will be not so good. But luckily, you have Photoshop installed on your computer.

Photoshop is like a virtual exchange center. You take the gifts your camera delivers and sort them one by one. The bad, or even just not-so-good ones, you get to exchange at the Photoshop "desk". Here you can exchange those bad photos for ones you'll really love.

The problem is, the folks processing your exchange (you?) don't always remember how the process works. Truth be told, we can sympathize. There are so many menus, and sub-menus, and rules of order in Photoshop its no wonder the process often goes astray.

That my friends, is the biggest problem with Photoshop - remembering all the commands and how to use them.

Oh sure there are video tutorials online that show you how to do it. But how much time do you waste searching websites for the tutorial you need? And what are you doing while watching the video? Taking notes no doubt, because it's so hard to remember all the steps. But those scribbled notes, on scraps of paper, might be awfully hard to find the next time.

There are big, thick books and manuals to help us remember. But you still have to lug out that big fat book and search for the pages you need to read before you begin. That's probably too big a task for most of us who want to get our photos looking good...fast!

So there you are with your visual gifts, photos you wish to share, and the daunting task of using Photoshop to expose the beauty within. Remembering how would make life much, much simpler.

Perhaps like baking a fruitcake. You only do it once in a while so you certainly can't remember how. But pop open your box of recipe cards and there it is. Step-by-simple step instruction that leads you to that delicious treat - in the shortest possible time.

Photoshop is very much like baking I think. When you follow the recipe, you get the treat! Quite possible you'd rather have your photos looking good than eat fruitcake though.

But I think you'd agree that something as simple as a recipe card could be very helpful in remembering the Photoshop steps.

Fortunately, no matter what method of remembering you prefer, the business of helping folks use Photoshop is even bigger than the business of selling the high-priced software.

So, next time you have trouble remembering how to exchange your bad photos for good in Photoshop, take comfort in the fact that millions of others are just like you. Millions are searching for the ultimate tool or "cheat sheet" that helps them get though that pile of photos faster. And get to the gifts inside.
